LONDON AIDS MEMORIAL. We owe it to them.

Even Katie Price – a la JORDAN, – was wearing a Red Ribbon when she fell out of the Piers Morgan Awards en route to Mahiki club, worse for wear, early this week. Celebrities dare not NOT wear the ribbon in these PR times of instant exposure.

Well it’s coz she loves the gays innit.

Of course it’s not only " the gays " that are affected by HIV/AIDS and World AIDS Day, all genders and sexualities in every country run risk of exposure to the virus that 25 years on still has no cure. UK HIV Health Charities spout the message of manageable disease in funky campaigns while the ones who passed before us are simply forgotten in the rush to promote Living with HIV rather than dying or died of AIDS. I was thinking this half an hour into WORLD AIDS DAY – Tuesday December 1st and put up on my Facebook Status : London needs a permanent AIDS memorial where we can gather to remember the ones who succumbed, dying bravely, defiantly and with no knowledge of the battle ahead. A space for flowers, notes and memories for all the days that we remember. We owe it to them.

Two minutes later Gary Henshaw of KU BARS London replied : Yes we should start a campaign . . . 100% backing from me. I followed up with : Thanks Gary – it needs to be here for World Gay Pride LONDON 2012. So we became " ball rollers " and that’s all we are, just instigators not creators – the focus team will do that.

This was the point of history – two people with one idea followed by swift action. It took TWO MINUTES. The fire was in the belly now and a super spiritual surge quickly created a Facebook group. I facebooked Gary to say " you are the first officer ". He agreed. This is how I want it recorded as the conception of the LONDON AIDS MEMORIAL. We owe it to them.

As I write this blog on Thursday December 3 we have already amazingly attracted over 1000 members with our vision, plus offers of help, experienced support and practical advice. Wall posts and Discussions boards are building daily including various IN MEMORIAM pages. Brighton and Manchester have Aids Memorials – Why not London? The rush of energy in response is humbling.

It’s easy to think that when an idea springs from nowhere it must be wrong.
Surely life is not this easy? Yes it is – but you have to be on the right vibration at the right time for all the elements to come together. Then you have to make sure that the ego obstacles don’t detract you from the primary purpose of mission. We have not chosen a focus team yet, we need to take breath and honour that the elements we cannot see or hear are working for us in unseen fields. Remember Field Of Dreams the 1989 Baseball movie with Kevin Costner – " Build and HE will come ". It feels a bit like that. Trusting the process without knowing the journey.

We owe it to them.

It is clear from the wall posts that people know we owe it to them. The thousands who suffered teaching US how to court hope with death. We will never forget this and we will never forget them, and we need to remember that our egos will kill spirit faster than AIDS. This is just the beginning of our journey. Wish us well.
