Rebirthing Breathwork London UK

REBIRTHING Breathwork comes from a base of New Age & Eastern Philosophy and THE SWARMITE honours the writers of the first book in 1977 - Rebirthing In The New Age – Leonard Orr, founder of the THETA HOUSE Movement and Sondra Ray, creator of the LRT ( Loving Relationship Training ). They were both pioneers and should be seen as such, but the first book that enticed THE SWARMITE was REBIRTHING : The Science of Enjoying All of Your Life by Jim Leonard and Phil Laut, who went on to be creators of VIVATION Breathing technique.
Readers may be unaware that Louise L Hay ( You Can Heal Your Life ) was one of the early Rebirthers in the 70′s taking Leonard Orr’s recycled concept of Thought Is Creative to unimagined levels. The Swarmite began working with Louise Hay books and tapes in 1984.
After REBIRTHING IN THE NEW AGE the second most important read became BIRTH & RELATIONSHIPS : How your Birth Affects your Relationships written by Sondra Ray and one of the first LRT Trainers Bob Mandell - published 1987, the year THE SWARMITE discovered rebirthing in Australia. The journey had begun.
However, evolution occurs and Breathwork must move with it in the New Century so he no longer teaches many of Orr’s Guru style methods that remain fundamentally close to the " old way ", – that a 9 Day training makes you a Breathworker. Experience is about responsibility as much as understanding theory and while the Leonard Orr method may still attract, many more do not connect with such extreme doctrine of a quick fix or his interpretation of biblical physical immortality. The reality is that detoxification can be done in cities as well as teepees, breathwork can be done in groups as well as 121′s, in clubland as well as holistic Spas. Breathwork needs to grow up into adulthood so read as much as you can from the web and make your choices.
The Swarmite was trained in 1988 by LRT Trainer Diana Roberts who brought Rebirthing Breathwork to the UK in 1980. Over a 3 year period he was involved with training breathworkers with Diana’s Rebirthing 2000 Programme and all the LOVING RELATIONSHIP TRAINING (LRT) Trainers from America including Sondra Ray, Bob Mandell & Rhonda Levand. On LRT weekend trainings he was one of 4 logistic managers working with 36 assistants over a four day weekend for over 120 people . . .
. . . but now we must expand the promise of Breathwork, rebrand, reach out and stop preaching to the converted. Thankfully some are taking up this mantel bringing fresh ideas to a magical healing tool. In 1996 he met Gunnel Minett who has supported him ever since in bringing new ideas on Codependency & Addiction to breathwork and relationship technology.

Many testimonials to Breathwork appear to the outsider to be too " airy-fairy " for many urbanites, which is a great pity. Using the appropriate language therefore is essential to get a message across. Here is a review published in QX Music & Club Magazine in 1997 by DJ, Writer, Editor & Social Commentator Stewart Who? after his first Rebirthing Breathwork session.
Known as a heavy user of club drugs his session blew him away.
" The fact that I’ve been going to Rebirthing breathwork sessions has been the source of much interest amongst my friends. Some saw it as a frivolous and fashionable pastime prompted by too many episodes of Absolutely Fabulous.
Others conceded that after prozac, amytriptamine, diazepam, coke and counselling, it could hardly do any harm. Some people are mystified, while others are threatened when your friends start looking inwards, it’s hard not to question whether you should be doing the same. Rebirthing is also known as " conscious connected breathing " and basicly that’s all it is, a breathing technique which brings you closer to your subconscious. It may sound like bull shit and I’m very sceptical but the first time I tried it I was completely blown away. It seemed quite simple : controlled breathing in and out, sometimes through the mouth, then the nose. I lay on the floor on a comfy duvet and The Swarmite lay beside me and gave assurance that he’d be breathing in a similar fashion as direction and connection. At first I was bored. As far as I was concerned a nice fat spliff would chill me out quicker. Then after about 10 minutes something started to happen. My whole body began to tingle in a way that I can only relate to drug experiences. I broke out in a sweat, my mouth and hands became paralysised and I felt like I was coming up on the strongest E I’d ever had the luck to get my paws on. It didn’t feel good at first, if a drug had done that to me in a club, I’d have been screaming for the paramedics. Two things kept me going : trust in Swarmite and a determination to sort out the shit in my head. Torrents of sweat were poring from me, and I could hear him explaining it was all the drugs and toxins being released from my body. Had I been able to speak, I might have asked him to bottle it for me.
Eventually the intensity of the experience lessened, the paralysis eased and I continued breathing as if my body was floating. I turned into a fetal position on my side and my whole body vibrated. I felt exhausted, relieved and slightly off my face. I couldn’t deny that I’d had a very strong drug-free physical experience. It wasn’t my imagination, something very powerful had occured. I can honestly say, that cup of tea I was handed after, was the best I had ever had in my life and the biscuits tasted like nothing I’d ever had before. All my senses were on overdrive.
It was all very strange and I did experience what can only be described as a natural high. I walked back to the tube station feeling relaxed, relieved and blissfully clear. I was supposed to be meeting friends for dinner, they all knew I was doing the rebirth thing and thought the whole scenario hilarious. When I didn’t show up on time, they joked that I’d been still-born.
There’s no denying that at one point during the " breathe " I felt paralysed with fear and overwhelmed by the powerful rush experienced. But it was explained that " every breath is different, like a kaleidoscope " and once the process becomes familiar the control in the body eases. It soon passed and I felt amazing.
DJ Stewart Who? still has a breathe session now and again with The Swarmite and has changed his lifestyle for the better. He still uses party drugs but has veered from an addictive space with Coaching and codependency instruction into purposeful using. A big thrill for him after listening to her tapes for years was interviewing Marianne Williamson and spending time with her shopping while in London. You never know what the future holds.
